Product omschrijving

Geïnspireerd door filosofische levensvragen, komen de prints van Berend van den Brand in 3 thema’s: Greed, Identity Crisis en Psychotic Noodle Attack. Elk ontwerp komt met zijn eigen achtergrondverhaal.

Greed

A vicious monster that takes and takes with their human claws 'till there's nothing left. Roaming over the land in search to still his ever lasting hunger. A creature that consumes everything, but is never fulfilled. It's no wonder this artwork is called 'Greed'. But how did greed come to existence? And how can we cure it, if it's even curable? These questions came to mind, when Berend created this image. Breaking the chain of greed is hard, especially when everyone around you is taking everything and leaves nothing behind. It's only normal you'll become greedy as well. In times of scarcity we all fall prey to greed. But by showing the monster of greed that the one who only takes and never gives eventually consumes themselves, might end the never ending hunger of greed. No one is excluded from greed, so ask yourself: will you keep going 'till the earth is devoured or will you learn to tame this creature called greed?

Identity Crisis

Have you ever felt like a contradiction? Like you can be open en emotional, but also harsh and cold? Like you can feel love but also hate at the very same time? Or like you're honest and loyal, but also can be deceitful and untrustworthy? This piece is called 'Identity Crisis' and brings up the question: who are we really? For example this orchid embraces some kind of beauty and softness, but tribal tattoos and blood spatter seem dark and morbid. And at the same time these trades can both be part of someone's personality. By defining our identity by either this or that we're not seeing the full potential of who we are and might end up in a so called 'Identity Crisis'. No one is all good or all bad. What makes you you? Do you define yourself with only the "good" or "bad" parts within you or have you embraced the parts you want to hide from the entire world or yourself?

Psychotic Noodle Attack

The story behind the 'Psychotic Noodle Attack' is quite personal. As a young boy at the age of 17, artist Berend van den Brand had a psychosis. During this time reality merged into fantasy. Everything that was normal felt strange and horrific. Even something simple as a bowl of noodles. Dolls and everything like the human form, but wasn't, was particularly scary. He had the idea the whole world was recording his psychosis with their phone and felt like everybody was watching him all day long. Eventually even things that still felt normal, like a regular pickle, began to feel frightening. The image portrays a feeling of chaos and being out of control, but at the same time gives the audience a sense of unlimited creativity, possibilities and freedom that comes with having no mental limitations or constrictions.
